I think this is my favorite sweater pattern. It’s incredibly well-written. Excuse me while I write a sonnet dedicated to Audrey and Gudrun Johnston.
I alternated skeins because you have to if you don’t want to look freakish, but I really hate doing it, so I cheated. I knit with one skein until I thought I’d need to switch, then alternated between two for about an inch, snipped the old yarn and continued knitting with the new ball.
I was obsessive as I did this and made sure I knit all the ribbing with the first skein, the body and the sleeve-shaping with the second skein, and the fronts, back, and sleeve caps with the third. This led to many ends to weave in. Which led to aggravation. Which led to an increase in ice cream consumption. Still, I’m happy with the result.
As I am freakishly long of arm, leg, and waist, I had to tweak some measurements, so here they are. Hopefully this will help other tall people. We do suffer so.
Modifications:
- I increased the length of the body by 3” after the waist increases were done.
- I lengthened the arms by an inch (because that’s what I wish I’d done on my first Audrey) after the decreases.
- Because I had to lengthen the body, I ended up with 13 buttons instead of 10. Somehow, the math all worked out perfectly so I didn’t have to change the number of stitches between the buttonholes. I think it was a miracle of some kind.
Still, with all the lengthening, I had plenty of yarn left. I could have made the sleeves full-length if I’d wanted to, but I didn’t. So there you go.
