Notes

I felt that even after blocking the chest would end up too wide. While it says in the pattern that small is for a 35 inch chest, and I should fit in that, it seemed huge on the needles, especially in the elongated stockenette, so on rows 35 and 37 of the elongated section I decreased one stitch on each side, using ssk and k2tog respectively. On row 39 I ssk twice and k2tog twice at each end to have 80 stitches on the needle. At the sleeve decreases, I cast off the 4 stitches, then 2 on each side as per the pattern, but omitted the decreases on the next row, as I felt I may be getting a little too small. On the neck shaping I kept the neck 20 stitches wide, leaving 24 stitches going over each shoulder.

Once finished, I really didn’t like how it fit, and the shoulders really fit funny. So I did a big no-no that made it workable for me. I soaked it, in soak for 15 minutes, then I placed it in a very low heat dryer, and tumbled it for 15 minutes, until it just started felting. I then pulled it out, hand blocked it to my shape, then had it dry the rest of the way on me. This fixed the shoulders, and made it into a piece that I am moderately happy with.
