IntSweMoDo2010 # 11

sample before blocking: 28st x 42 rows in 4x4 inch in St. st.
after blocking ( no stretching, just wet and dry flat) :26 st x 42 rows in 4x4 inch in St. st.

My goals for this project:-))

  1. cardigan seamless and knitted from the top
  2. free flowing front panels with no button band
  3. seamless set-in sleeves
  4. shoulders shaped by short rows.

Once again ;-)) I am following recommendations from B.G. Walker book “Knitting from the Top” on how to go about knitting seamless set-in sleeves. There are two ways to go about it and I choose the one where sleeves are knitted at the same time as the body. Sure, it is a little crazy ;-))) , with bunch of balls dangling from my work and stitches put on hold everywhere, but I have tried on what I have knitted so far and was happy with the way the sleeves are shaping up. Actually, I was quite amused that the whole construction seems to be working, since it is very first time i have tried on my own to knit in this way from scratch. Will see how it goes. So far so good :-))

Cardigan gauge before and after blocking 28stsx40 rows in 4x4 inch in St. st. My measurements must be a little off, since cardigan did stretched a little in length and even less so in width.
It was a learning project for me on how to knit seamless set-in sleeves. Tiny needles put a lot of stress on hands and made my right hand hurt at times, so I had to take it slow knitting this project. I wish I had more yarn, so I could make the sleeves longer, but I do like they way they came out. In the climate I live in there are plenty of opportunity to wear warm garments with shorter sleeves. Also, for my work I prefer short or 3/4 length sleeves. The fit of sleeves in the armholes is OK. After knitting this project I understand now how better fit can be achieved,…it is a learning process ;-))) Overall, I am very happy with the result :-))

I should be ashamed of the number of pictures I am posting, but I looooove that cardi :-)) what can I say ;-))
