Notes

I don’t wear scarves or shawls, ever, so the fashion for those patterns frustrates me. But I love the Sushi Ushi brioche lace by Nancy Marchant featured in the Nightingale pattern, so I am adapting it to a shrug.

First I gauged it out in my DK yarn, since the pattern is for lace weight. Then I cast on in the round (a few times, as my count was off). I’ve progressed from the wrist to the underarm, where I am doing a few increases before I will split the material flat across the back.

Getting the godets for the shrug opening was a lot of trial and error. I originally thought they would be garter stitch, but that didn’t work so well in the round with decreases. I ended up with plain brioche with a centered double decrease and I think it looks nice. Plus I could replicate it on the increase side. Finally running down the second arm. Yay.

Complete. Fog and smoke haze are making very bad light, so finished photos have to wait. As a person with long arms, I made the sleeves knuckle length out of jealousy. Now I suspect I will be turning back the cuffs most of the time, since I’m really not used to long sleeves.
