LKA January Challenge: Stashbusting
I love this yarn, I love this pattern; I’m really enjoying this knit :D
Unblocked: 41”/104cm x 20”/52cm
Blocked: 52”/132cm x 23.5”/60cm
Perfect size!
Mods:
- CO 243 stitches (two fewer lace repeats) on 5.00mm needles (for extra stretch) and doubled yarn (for added weight)
- both garter stitch transitions, 2nd row: normal decreases (2>1 stitch) at outer edges, double decreases (3>1 stitch) in the centre
- first row of Chart B: same as above. This allows the lace patterns to line up when starting with fewer lace repeats at the beginning
- started Chart C at row 17 (because of fewer stitches)
Yarn remaining:
Chart A: 70.6g (191 st)
Transition: 67.1g (189 st)
Chart B: 47.6g (147 st)
Transition: 45.2g (145 st)
Chart C (1st rep): 38.9g (129 st)
Chart C (2nd rep): 24.1g (81 st)
Chart C (3rd rep): 16.3g (33 st)
Chart D: 14.8g (Finished!)
18/2/14: Cast on for the third time. CO 243st using 5.00mm circular and double yarn.
19/2/14: Finished Chart A. The nupp rows take a really long time to do, but after that the knitting is quicker.
Finished the first garter stitch transition. I had to fiddle the decreases to make the patterns line up (details in Mods)
20/2/14: Finished Chart B, second garter stitch transition, and Chart C (1st rep)
22/2/14: Finished Chart C (2nd Rep)
23/2/14: Finished Chart C (3rd rep) and Chart D. All done! Now to block this beauty…
Yarn used = 322.1m/351.5yd. Only just made yardage for this project :)
27/2/14: Blocked and finished! I’m so pleased with this, even though there were multiple false starts/cast ons :D
<small><small>Cast on January 30th: 277st in knitted CO, two strands of yarn for weight.
<small><small>9/2/14: Finished chart A; 64.25g yarn remaining. I hope I have enough yarn!
<small><small>10/2/14: Finished the garter st transition; 59.7g yarn remaining. I really think I’m going to run out of yarn…. I might have to make this a crescenty shaped shawl as I love it too much to frog!
<small><small>11/2/14: Finished chart B; 36.8g yarn remaining. I’m not liking my chances of finishing this with one skein…. I’ll need to hunt through the stash and see if there is anything else suitable….. :(
<small><small>12/2/14: I switched to 3.50mm circulars in the hope of eking this yarn out a bit further…. finished the second garter st transition with 33.9g yarn remaining.
<small><small>14/2/14: After completing one rep of Chart C, I only have 15g yarn remaining, and 129 stitches to go.
On the up side: I have Lush Cashmerino in Compote, a slightly darker, slightly more varigated colour.
On the down side: it is 80% merino/20% cashmere. I want the soft stuff next to my face! :(
Can I be bothered to start over again?!
17/2/14: I decided late last night that the new yarn was too variegated to show the lovely lace pattern, and the lack of silky shine looked wrong. I have frogged this entire project, and will start again with two fewer lace repeats at the beginning.
