Going with H hook because I crochet loose

Bought this pattern yesterday, it was just so pretty I wanted to make one for a soon to be little girl I just heard will be joining us in this world! :) I made this little color sheet (super crappy quality but hay..it works) to play with colors-as these types of blankets are all about the color choice IMO.

Now the funny thing is I like the black lines! bahaha! I might make a few versions of this blanket! :)

Ok…so…a beginner might get a bit confused by this pattern. There were a few places I scratched my head for a few moments but figured it out…but I’ve been crocheting forever so it wasn’t a big deal-but a newbie might have a tough time with that. I’d have written it a bit differently and added a few things that seem to have been forgotten…but that is just me.
examples: When finishing a round it isn’t always complete (like adding the last hdc and sc before joining)…It also doesn’t always specifically say: ‘in the next stitch’-you have to assume this and sometimes it means in the same stitch when previously it was written the same way meaning in the next stitch…

I decided to do outlines in black-just to see what happens…I may take the black out but I’m just messing around for now…

I am getting near the completion. By this point I can tell that the first tier of squares don’t really want to lay flat. I will need to do a lot of steam blocking to get it to really lay so I’m happy-but when I make it again I am going to modify a bit to avoid this. I did do the second tier differently-don’t ask what I did-I just freeformed it-I also wound up with different sized points for the finished points-it is how it lays flat best-least for me. I really like the look-just not how it is bunching up…

I have it in the washer now…then will dry..and see where I am at as far as how lumpy it is…I will most likely stretch it and steam the bajesus out of it.

I washed it in the washer, dried it in the dryer, took it out when it was a tad bit damp and then I stretched it with pins on my mats…I then had to use my iron with steam on very low to try to coax it to lay flat int he center…It’s those first tier squares that just don’t want to lay right…Soo….I will attempt to mess around with the pattern to see if I can figure out a way to make those squares less squareish and make them fit better…this pattern is gorgeous though. I’m a fan.

I also left off the last round before the edging…personal choice…

Finished diameter after blocking: 45”

I’m almost wondering that I should have crocheted looser-if that would have helped the puckering of the first tier….IDK I just didn’t want it too too airy either…
