Notes

I made a matching flower headband (fourth photo down). I would post the pattern, but won’t because it does use a lot of the same stitches as the trim..

Update: After wearing this around a bit I decided I HATE the longer front-it doesn’t hang right at all. I will NOT make the front longer in the future-In fact, I may frog all the way down to redo the top of the front. As it is I have also ripped off the neck trim and just leave the top plain-I don’t like how it looks on me (but that is my personal taste). I am also wearing the shirt backwards so it can hang weird in the back until I actually fix the weird sagging issue caused by the uneven length that I just couldn’t sew in a way that would look right.

Update of update: OMG I frogged it. I just didn’t like the way it hung so I knew I’d never wear it for real. I will make it again though, but with panels that match and probably a little shorter.

4-11-14 My gauge was way off so I am modifying it as I go. I got some really cute sock yarn that is supposed to be the same thickness as the required yarn, but I think it is a tad thicker. I worried about the fact that the color changes occur far more soon than I was wanting, but OMG I LOVE IT! It is super awesome so far, FUN stitches in this one! I love it when a pattern is FUN to work-it requires a tiny bit of attention but also lets you go mindless at times…
I normally would have done the small size, but due to my gauge issue I fsc 62 and then that brings me to a total of 20 lace stitches.

4-12-14 The piece I am working on (back) is measuring 17.5” across. I actually think my gauge wasn’t off in the beginning as I rechecked it and it actually seems quite spot on. Not sure if I was wonky that night or what. Either way, I’m sort of glad I didn’t do as many fsc (chains) as was asked for in the beginning because when I did the convergence top that was only 15” across on front and back and it fit perfect. I’ve not made enough clothing things to feel confident about my modifications yet, so I’m allowing for major disappointment, but am being rather hopeful. This yarn really is pretty and feels so awesome for a summer top!

Pattern notes (there were some errors, I believe in the neck sections-if you look in the comments to the actual pattern they are written out very nicely):
using my beginning fsc count:
armhole:

  1. (50) sc

  2. 16 lace stitch

  3. 14 lace stitch Left neck

  4. 3 lace stitches Right Neck

  5. join in 12th stitch from left (3 lace stitches)

  6. 3 lace stitch

4-14-14: I couldn’t seem to find how to actually join the pieces, I had one longer (front) than the other and wasn’t sure what to do. I had to do this twice…The first time was a disaster. The second time I just joined from bottom and kept going until I ran out of room on the back. Then I realized the armpits were WAY TOO HUGE …(shown in really blurry photo) BUT that could be due to the fact that my yarn is a little different, so I’m not blaming the pattern. What I did to correct this issue was I put 3scdec around the front pit and dec around back pit….turned out pretty ok. Still have to work on the sleeves and then the edging (which I am worried will look weird in multi color-we shall see).

For the bottom edge: Round 4-ch 7 instead of 5 as I was getting tight around my butt. I decided to skip rounds (I sewed my pieces together first so I could work in the round) 5 and 6 and then for round 7 I put 12 sc in each loop-I skipped them because I was already happy with the length.

Neck Edge: I thought I would use a smaller hook because I did not want it to be as huge as the bottom edge flowers but that was a nightmare…I just went back to the other sized hook and have been experimenting with different amount of chains between because I can’t get it to lay flat…Again, I’m blaming this on my yarn choice as I seem to be the only one with this issue. So far, what is working is 7 ch between petals with ch 9 between the two petals at either corner.

I finished the sleeves and actually just followed along until I completed the 2nd row of lace stitches-it was all I needed on mine-probably because of my yarn difference. I also started off with 18 sc put evenly from center of front armpit to center back armpit because I had already done a bunch of dec around the pit area due to the disaster that was the pits-but it is shaping up nicely.

4-15-14: I have finally finished! :) I lightly sprayed it with water and have it laying to dry-it didn’t require much blocking for the actual base part, only the flower edgings….I will post some final pics of it later today. :)

I am giving this 4 stars only because there were a LOT of errors in the pattern-I would have given it 3 because of that fact, BUT it was such a fun fun stitch pattern that I gave it a bonus star for creativity! :)

I also made a matching headband using a modified version of the flower trim. :)
