Notes

I love how this turned out with fingering yarn and the larger needles…(I used the needles suggested in the pattern). I REALLY love this top-I cannot wait for cooler weather!!!

Ok, so before you read my notes, know that the designer has been getting all the errors corrected-I just happened to be one of the first few to work this pattern so if you read my notes it looks like it is fraught with errors. As of now, it is 6-27-15 and all the errors I mention have now been corrected in the pattern-because of this, I will not be taking any of the errors mentioned into account when I give this pattern a star rating. Ideally, it should have been tested prior to release, but hay-stuff happens, life goes on, you gotta just grab your smile out of your pocket-the problems are fixed and this is a great cardi-I’m just glad we got it all hammered out so no one else has the issues I (and a few others) did.

This has been fixed: the update has me scratching my head still so i made my own schematic looking at the sample. Helped to wrap my brain around it. The update is wrong I think…for right back you should work the next ws then on the next rs row bind off 7. doing that it looks like I am finally on the right track….

This has been corrected: Pretty sure right diagonal back is wrong. See second photo. I ripped back to the bind off and tried to reverse the decreases and increases but that is still looking weird -although not as badly(see third photo). I think, perhaps the cast off should be on the other side-which, funny thing is, I was assuming I should have ended on a WS, then realized the pattern said end on a RS so I had to tink back to end on a RS…uggh. Gonna fire off another pm to the designer. And yes, there is an issue, so for now I will put the work aside before I dig myself into another hole. :) Heard back-yes there is an issue and she is working on it. Hang tight.

Totally unsure if I want a small or medium-my bust is exactly 32…I think I am going to go for a medium because my yarn is a little thinner-even if I am a loose knitter…later that day: my row gauge is spot on without any blocking-so I’m happy with doing a small-it will block a little bigger so it should be wonderfully perfect. EEK!

Observation: When you start the right front panel, you are starting from the bottom and working your way up-took me a while to figure that out. haha!

Copying and pasting the correction that the designer posted (this is 13-15 of the not increasing section of the right front-that threw me off for a few moments):

“Errors to the Right Diagonal Stripe Pattern shown in bold:

Row 13: Sl1, (k1, p1) 3x, sm, kfb, k to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1.
Row 14: K1, ◊k2tog; rep from ◊ to last 2 sts before m, sm, (k1, p1) 3x, k1.
Row 15: Sl1, (p1, k1) 3x, sm, ◊kfb; rep from ◊ to last 3 sts, k3.
Row 16: P to next m, sm, (p1, k1) 3x, k1.“

Question: On the front right-it says to measure the short side-according to the schematic it looks as if we measure the long side. I will fire off a question to the designer to be sure.
Answer: 17” on the short side is correct-new schematic to be uploaded by designer. :)

Fired another question off to the designer:
Left Front (in the diagonal stripe pattern)
Row 1 should it say: ‘k to last 2 sts before sm’
Row 3 should it say: ‘k to last 2 sts before sm’
Row 13 should it say: ‘k to last 2 sts before sm’
Row 14 should it say: ‘to last st before end’ (not m)

6-15-15: When I got to the first part of the textured stripes I thought that surely this was a typo. No way would this work out. So cool that it does. I’ve learned a new thing! :)

6-16-15: I have gotten to the point of the straight section on the right front. Seems to be coming along without a hitch. :)

I do love this yarn, but have really been having a difficult time finding the perfect project for it-and I’m really thinking that this is maybe NOT the perfect project for it, but I love this top too much so I am going to keep on working it….the problem is the yarn is too darn busy! oh well! :)

6-17-15: I now have both the front right and left done-I still haven’t heard back regarding the corrections on the front left-but I just did it as I figured it was supposed to be and it came out to a perfect flip match to the right. It’s a fun little pattern, because you don’t feel overwhelmed, each panel is a nice ‘little project.’ Nice for on the go-not that I am going anywhere….Oh how I wish I was. :)

6-18-15: Welp, still waiting for a go ahead on the back section…I’m not wanting to keep working on it until I know I’m on the right track. The designer is working on it-a little bit of a hiccup but work is being done to correct the error. Pretty sure I should end on a WS and then flip the increases and decreases-that would put the bind off on the opposite side…but I’ve already done this section twice so I’ll just sit back and wait. No big deal-this is a cute top and really interesting design. :)

6-21-15: Still waiting on how to proceed with the back-BUT I’ve been quite productive while I’m waiting. I began working on a super secret project and am really happy with how it turned out. EEK! I’m going to have it tested as well as work up one more and take it from there.

6-23-15: I am going to completely rip apart the back I was working on…I redid it so many times I no longer am confident I remember what I was doing. haha! Since the corrections are up, I will just start over following the directions and see where it leads me. :) So excited to get back to this adorable top! :)

later, after the changes have been made I came to this:
Ok, so I ripped it all back and started with the new directions for the right back…

I got to the bind off portion…I am binding off on a RS row which means the first 7 stitches being bound off are on the side that does not have the moss stitch edge…..

so when I get to the next row in my established pattern I will be on a RS row again which begins with moss stitch. I can’t see how I should begin that row and have it turn out like the sample.

I’m done with the instruction for now. I’m gonna try to do this myself. I’ve sketched my own schematic for the back with where I think the bind offs and increases and decreases should go. I don’t mind testing stuff-but I’d prefer to know what I’m getting into-I wasn’t prepared for all this work on this. But I don’t want this yarn to be wasted-it was the most expensive yarn I ever bought-and was from a gift card my wonderful hubby gave me. I wanted something special and I’d be so sad if I’ve cut it up for nothing. :(

Ok…So, I refreshed my brain, worked the right back up after sketching what it should lay out like and got it working-you need to work the next ws then on the next rs do the bind off-it works out ok if you do that. phew!

6-24-15: Finished the right back yesterday-I snapped some pics of what I have done so far-looks like I am finally on the right track. The sketch I made is helping me to make sure I am in the right direction regardless of what the pattern says-makes me a little more confident after all those oopsie poopsies! :)

This has been fixed: Started left back-we should end on a rs row and bind off on the next ws row-doing that everything else is spot on. whohooo! Now to go mow before more rain! :)

Okie dokie-all the body sections are done, I’m so excited. I started the first sleeve this evening and realized that I’m going to really have to pay attention to what on earth I am doing-uggh. I HATE having to pay attention to rows and increase rows at the same time-I may just type it all up and follow along-my problem is I’m a speed demon and I will get carried away with knitting before I realize I missed an increase. I can’t wait to have this top done! It’s such a fun design! :)

6-25-15: I got through quite a bit of the first sleeve-progressing well. I am doing tallies to keep track of my increases and what row I am on-a little annoying to have to stop and write stuff down every row but it’s working! :)

6-26-15: Somehow I got to my stitch count prior to the row count-but I’m going to fudge it a little-I’m looking at the schematic and I should be ok with just adding enough rows so I get the right height prior to the decrease part….I couldn’t’ handle it-I had to steam the sections because I wanted to see how it would look….LOVE it! :) Now I’m even more excited to get this done! :) Finished the right sleeve. YEAH!

6-27-15: Just finished sewing it up-I got a bit confused on the process, but fudged my way through it-a little photo to help me along may have helped, but I got it eventually. Never did a top that was seamed before, so I’m sure it was just my newbieness that gave me problems. Can’t wait to work the neckband tomorrow! :) LOVE it so far!

My biggest complaint with this pattern is that there are a few places where it asks you to continue working in the moss pattern…and then reminds you to maintain a selvage edge. I’d prefer if it was clearly spelled out. I also had quite the confusion with the sleeve placemtent-a few more words and/or photo may have made a world of difference-and for that I would deduct a star BUT the ingenious construction and pattern effectiveness give it a bonus star. :) GREAT pattern. dbird’s two talons up.
