I loved the stitches on this so much I wanted to make another-but this time in a traditional hat style. Already have the band a quarter of the way done! :)

Band: I started with the smaller needle-(us 7) I opted out of making this one a double layer-so I only did the straight up chart. I made enough band repeats to go around my head-I tried to start the second chart where I thought was halfway, but I guess I got excited to start the next chart prematurely, so the exact end of the band is more like the side of the back, but whatever. ;)

After I repeated chart A 4 times and then through row 3 I did chart B starting on row 9 and repeated it 4 times-and then just kept on going until I thought it was snug enough-I actually lost count, but it was probably closer to 5 times as the band is not exact. so, to do it again, I’d repeat each one 5 times….I don’t think it really matters if your seam isn’t smack in the back-I actually like it a little off to the side, it isn’t blindingly as obvious that way. Bind off after your band is big enough (but kind of snug) and then sew your band ends together.

Anyhoo, switched to my US 8 mainly because it is a nice small circ and I like to use it for hats because I don’t have to use the magic loop for as many rounds if I use that sucker-but it isn’t interchangable so it is what it is. I find though, that I liked the hat portion in the bigger needle. I then picked up 108 stitches along band and then increased up to 120 (works in the wrapped stitch pattern to have it be a multiple of 8) and am working the wrapped stitch pattern for a few repeats. I want it to be kind of slouchy. All the cool kids are doing it these days. ;)

I did the wrapped stitch chart 2 whole times (rows 1-12 twice). Then I started the decrease part-but the difference for me was that I did rows

Round 1-same
rounds 2-3: same as 2
round 4: same as 3
Round 5: same as 5
round 6: same as 5
round 7: same as 6
rounds 8-9: same as 7-8
round 10: same as 10
round 11: same as 11

For my pom pom I like the looser look of pompoms when they are big balls on a hat…I think the full thick ones look old ladyish. I have no idea why, I just do. I used the finger method to make it because my pom pom maker doesn’t make them that big. I basically spread my fingers and just wrapped the yarn around them over and over until I thought it was thick enough.
