I didn’t like the way the ears flopped around so I wound up catching them on the hdcs for the last round of them and I was happy with that. It isn’t a ‘fun’ crochet by any means, but it is cute! :)

I had issues with using buttons on a baby item (choking hazard) so for the black I did: magic ring, ch 1,6 sc into ring and join with sl st. Turned out cute. I also added the catch light as I was sewing the eyeball onto the owl with the white…I had considered doing a round of sc in black and then a round of sc in white for the eyes-as it would give the same look BUT I wanted my owls to be looking in different directions. Because…SQUIRREL!

The half motifs were the most bazaar set of instructions ever. Why on earth would I want to cut my yarn every round??!! I did wind up cutting after the first row of chains, then from then on I would go back and forth so the first BLO was actually FLO and it turned out just fine-with less ends to weave in. Probably could have gotten away without that first cutting also by chaining 4 and tr into the ring-but I didn’t.

I have read through a lot of notes on this pattern…Lots of people complain about the squares not laying flat. I have loose tension (always do) and this was not an issue for me-I did give a tug-tug on them before sewing up (I just used a needle to sew them together, I’ve found that I prefer how that looks over crocheting squares together) and they were totally fine.

I’ve done enough crazy blankets and items to know that if you don’t want a gazillion ends in the end to weave as you go….I am taking each motif at a time and sewing in the ends as I finish them so I don’t have to do it all at the end.

I didn’t want to do this pattern…seen it all over and never interested me-I don’t like ‘faddy’ things…and owls are sooooo 20012…. BUT I got invited to a baby shower and everything she selected at the baby store was OWLS so I had to…

I did one owl motif and so far it’s ‘meh.’

I’ve gotten all the colored motifs done-going to work on the half motifs tomorrow when I have to take my daughter to get her third set of braces. I am most likely going with the tulip border-using a few of the rows that I liked from Sophie’s Universe…

I was able to finish up last night the motifs at dd’s karate-I tried to follow the pattern for the first round of the edging, but finally just ditched it and went into freeform mode.

I then started on the sophie’s flower portion and modified that as well, to work with the blanket. It will take a little longer, for sure, than just banging out a quick edge, but OMG it is gonna be CUTE!

This pattern is not for beginners….more like adventurous intermediate people-mainly because I had to call on a lot of my previous experiences to get through the pattern in its entirety-and even then, at the end, I just said, “aww hell no.”

Ok, I admit, when I first started this blanket and did my first owl I wasn’t really impressed. But seeing it all together makes me so happy! It’s adorable! hearts

Update: Saw the mom to be yesterday at my kiddos graduation party. I sneakily asked what her nursery colors were-she said pink and green. OMG matches the border perfect! YEAH!

UPDATE: The shower was yesterday and for sure, this blanket got the most oohs and ahhhs. I have to say though, I was rather pissed…People gave crocheted items that were store bought-the owl hats that were so popular at craft fairs-totally disappointing to see our craft being bought in a box store. I also gave my standard booties-the really cute ones with thread-with little flowers on them…She needed to be told they were hand made..oy.
