I wanted to try a top down hat-I need some magic loop method under my belt…I’ve tried it in the past without much luck…I’m seeming to get the hang of it so far. :)
I’ve finished the increase parts and I have to say that the way this thing increases is making it officially my favorite way to knit a hat. I have not enjoyed the way many knitted hats end at the top…this is a deep violent hate filled with lots of seething rage at the fact that I would spend hours on a fabulous hat only to have it end in a storm of patheticness. I can tell that the shape of the top of this hat is perfect, the way a hat should be.
I can also be glad that I don’t have to stress out about how the darn thing will end…because it began at the end. And then the clouds parted, angels sang and the sun shone down upon me and my needles. Ok, that’s a lie. It is cold as hell and I was actually knitting inside and it was dark out because the sun sets too early….CURSE YOU DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME CHANGE!
Whilst I was making this hat I stressed about the holes all over it…Would the thing be warm with all these holes??!!!
The answer? YES! It is warm, and I wuvy dove it.
I used the largest size as mentioned in the pattern and the finished circumference at the ribbing part is 19.5”. I used the needles suggested but had to knit very tightly for me (I’m a loosey goosey). Fits my 21.5” head perfectly without being too tight or too loose. I ended the pattern repeat at 6.5” and did 1.5” of ribbing. I did not want it to be really really slouchy. I am thrilled with this hat. I really really like it a lot, the pattern was not too complicated at all and quite fun to work up. Dbird 2 talons up for this one!
