Notes

mods and notes:

I am a little worried after reading through the different notes…Just giving the pattern a glance over it doesn’t seem so awful though.

what I would have included in the notes of pattern:

first portion (brim) is worked flat, and then the body worked in the round…

always work your wraps when you come across them (the second portion of the brim does mention this at the end, but the few rows leading up to that, you do need to knit/purl past the previous ones. Personally, I don’t wrap and turn. I use German short rows.

The part that describes the folding of the brim was a bit vague. You should put your provisional stitches onto another needle and then Purl the corresponding stitches together.

Finished the hat part-now onto embellishments. I’m so excited that this is a PERFECT fit. I have a very small head, so I chose the small size and my head is 21.5” My gauge is 18 stitches and 28 rows for 4”.

I also started my decreases as said for 5” from folded part (which is the bottom edge). It was worded confusing, I was unsure if I should do 5” from the edge or the part where they joined together. I’m glad I chose what I chose. :)

I’m thinking about making my decoration snakes, to match my hissy fitt snake fingerless mitts….Or using the basket knot… Decisions decisions!

Ok, so I’ve decided the way I’m going and you are all gonna have to wait to see what happens. I did start the leaves though, and I used the smaller needle as suggested, and I am liking them. I saw some leaves on the projects that just seemed a bit too big for me.

As of now, I’ve gotten it all done as per the pattern, but I’m about to add one (two) more little doodads. :)
I have some leftovers of this yarn…we shall see.

Regarding the sewing of the leaves. I did NOT block them. I left the integrity of the curl and utilized that for a nice 3-d effect. I was careful to sew at the very edge, so that the curl sort of hides the sewing. I love how they turned out.

The snake parts are taken from Hissy Fitt Fingerless Mitts pattern, I thought that would be a fun element for the ‘boring’ side…to make the i-cord turn into a snake! :) Fun little knot also-first time doing that!

Regarding my star rating…I was able to take advantage of the very generous free offering of the pattern. Currently, it is a paid pattern, so I feel I must elaborate on my star rating. I almost always rate 5 stars if I can make a project from start to finish. I deducted one star because there were quite a few parts that had me scratching my head. This can easily be a 5 star pattern with just a few little notations and rewording in the pattern..Also the same reason for my medium rating-if you have a bit of experience you should have no trouble….if you are new at knitting, this will be a bit tricky deciphering. :) BUT I LOVE this hat. VERY cute.
