Ok, I reattempted this hat in a different yarn (Hobby Lobby’s brand of baby sport-it was amazingly soft-not sure why it is called teal because it is a smokey light blue if you ask me) and paid more attention to the notations…really tough to figure out which size for what-I’m doing the smallest size now (which should be too small for me) and it is turning out far better than the first… I’m surprised the small size fits me as my head is 21.5”. I did get gauge so I think the sizes are either off a little or I messed up-which is doubtful since I’ve now attempted this twice. Either way, it turned out OK. The trim directions were a little tough to follow as well, I did try to keep to the pattern VERY diligently since my first attempt was so disastrous with it turning out SO HUGE-even though I was following the pattern (or so I thought).

I was intrigued by this type of hat construction. Turns out, I still am. I’m rather annoyed though, with the sizing discrepancy mainly because there is no way to really tell if it will fit until you are practically done. It is a lovely hat though, and I think it was worth the drama.

My first attempt: The pattern is a little hard to follow regarding which sizes do what-It will say 19 ONLY but then have a few rows below without that same notation for each row-I think I’ve figured it out, but it would have been easier if that notation was at the beginning of every row and/or had it boxed in so it was more obvious which rows they were talking about. So far it is looking good, about half way done using an awful yarn, but it was what I had on hand at the time. ;) If it turns out I will do right by the pattern and get some good stuff. ;) This first attempt really stunk and I really considered not trying again.
