I feel like I’ve gambled with this pattern considering there’s only one photo available of it from Drops Design, and it’s a pretty vague one to boot! But I thought it might work quite well in combining my two shades of Black Isle Yarns Shetland Sport (plus the dark Uradale for the flowers).

I’ve knitted it exactly as the pattern, with only a few little tweaks: slipped the first stitch when casting off around the armhole and shoulders (avoids that ‘stepped’ effect); 3-needle cast off at shoulders; knitted the neckband before knitting the front bands; slightly wider front button bands; double YO/k2tog buttonholes.

The Uradale is slightly finer than the BIY Shetland, so the tension around the flower section is not as even as I would have liked, but the overall effect is pretty good. The BIY Shetland is beautiful to knit with (it’s sort of nubbly and slightly uneven, rather like handspun), and creates a soft tweedy fabric that has a nap rather like velvet or suede…
