As an antidote to prolonged and mind-boggling fair isle knitting, I’m catching up on this pattern with some nice easy knitting… round and round… with a little bit of purl here and there… and some non-taxing colour changing ;)

Mods: 3-colour ‘fade’; slightly longer in the body; sleeves on 3.25mm needles (by mistake, but probably for the best size-wise); sleeves all in garter (I wasn’t too keen on the bit of garter only at the top of each); sleeve decreases to 58 sts (44 sts for the 38” size seemed incredibly narrow), then to 56 sts at cuff. There was an extra decrease row for certain sizes on the sleeves which I was a bit confused about…

I’ve juggled the yardages as best as I could as I realised that I would be using just about every scrap of each skein (eta: I did!): I’ve had to guess where to introduce the 2nd colour (so there was enough left of the 1st to fade into the 2nd on the sleeves) and I did that too early. So the fades on the sleeves ended up being very long between colour 1 and 2, as I had more of the first colour left. I’ve kind of got away with this as these skeins were quite alike and the garter fabric has blended them anyway. Not sure if any of that makes sense!

Yarn: merino singles are one of my fave yarns to knit with, and these from Hedgehog Fibres and The Urban Purl absolutely deliver and are beautifully dyed as well: the Urchin and Urban Sprawl shades complement each other so well in subtlety; and the Celtic Torc shade …. for an archaeology-fiend, worth it for the name alone!
