Sock Knitters Anonymous November challenge: Mansocks.

Since I LOVE the old BBC series Monarch of the Glen, I designed this mansock for Golly Mackenzie, the gilly of Glenbogle. It’s a tall sock he’d wear with his wading or hiking boots, keeping watch over the 45,000 plus acres of the estate. I bet it would look great with a kilt, too!

While I’m knitting these in sportweight yarn with the 60 stitch chart, I also made a couple of charts to make them in fingering weight at a later date. Stitch counts for the charts are 60, 64, 72, and 80 sts. The pattern is a traditional Scottish gansey pattern medley, woodsy and and iconic at the same time.

These were designed and knit as mansocks as a Christmas gift for The Old Goat. Alas, he has no kilt, but he does have waders, so I’m sure these will be the default fly fishing socks. They’d be great socks for your favorite sportsman, too.
