Starting with the main panels. Making it slightly narrower (by using a 3.5mm hook) so that it will fit over my Eileen Fisher tote (which is 10 inches high).

It’s tricky working the stitches that cross in front with this loosely twisted 2-ply yarn: the target area is really small, and you have to bend the work way back to be able to access the hook to pull up the first loop.

It becomes easier as you go: there’s more of the work to hang on to, and you get used to figuring out which of the four cable stitches to target (it helps to put a finger under the four of the previous row, to make sure they’re clearly identified).
