I am so excited to be knitting this adorable Santa Gnome for the 2025 Christmas holidays and gifting a few as presents. Purchased the yarn online and love the designer’s color choices. The pattern has excellent and clear instructions along with pictures and some useful videos. Pattern deserves 5 +++++ stars, IMO. Turned out adorable.

Santa Gnome Video Tutorial

Body- Long tail cast on of 46 stitches on a US size 4 circular knitting needle. Joined in the round after garter rows. Using a horseshoe cable pattern for the 12 cable stitches instead of the X & O’s cable in the pattern. Before stuffing and seaming the top of the head to the body’s cast on row is little over 13 ½ inches in length. Body and head weighs 58 grams.

Beard- Used a card that measures 6¾ inches in length to get a longer beard this time.

Arms- Knit in the round on two circular knitting needles. Stuffed lightly the arms weighs 10 grams.

Boots- Knit flat. Then seamed and stuffed.

Nose-Knit flat. Then seamed and stuffed.

Hat- C/O 49 (48 For Invisible Join). Knit in the round. Length of hat is approximately 12½ inches and weighs 28 grams. Hobby Lobby red jingle bell is 2cm.

Size-Total height of gnome is top of head to the cast on edge of body (seamed) approximately 12 ⅛ inches tall. Eyeglasses made by DH with jewelry wire.

Horseshoe Cable Pattern (8 stitches total)

Rounds 1-3 (or until cables are set): Knit all stitches in the round.

Round 6 (Cable Round):

Work a C4B (cable 4 back): Slip 2 stitches purlwise to a cable needle, hold in back, knit the next 2 stitches from the left needle, then knit the 2 stitches from the cable needle.

Work a C4F (cable 4 front): Slip 2 stitches purlwise to a cable needle, hold in front, knit the next 2 stitches from the left needle, then knit the 2 stitches from the cable needle.

Repeat: Rounds 1-6 for the desired pattern height.
