While blocking the afghan, I knitted the leaf border. After I had knitted about 20 leafs or so, I lined them up, slightly stretched to what I thought looked nice, against the edge of the afghan to get a better idea as to how many I would have to knit to fit around. I figured I would need 68 leafs and was right on the money.

When I was done knitting all the leafs, once again, I laid them around the afghan (I had not yet cast off my stitches). To ensure that I could sew them on without ending up with “leftover” leafs or not enough border, I used clippy markers to attach the border in regular segments. And then, before I started sewing, I decided to graft the live stitches, which were still on the needle, to the beginning of the leaf border (picked up stitches for that and used the yarn tail from CO for grafting to avoid having to weave it in).

Before I started sewing on the border, I tried crocheting it on, but it just seemed too fiddly while keeping the afghan spread out. It may have worked fine if I had lifted up the afghan, but I did not want to do that for fear that in the end the border would not fit accurately around the afghan.

If I had to do it all over again, I would try weaving in the yarn tails while knitting to avoid all this weaving in later; then again, it may not have looked right on the wrong side but it still seems worth checking into at least.
