Single bed dimensions so 127 x 165 cms.
Distension of 2 cms so foundation row so maybe make the foundation row 160 cms to allow for the hdc border included in pattern.
I should have done a foundation hdc row of even numbers cos I have one stitch left over. Luckily, I can undo that cos foundation crochet.
Ha, it’s distended to 171 cms by row 3. Oh well. Better to be 6 cms too long than 6 cms too short. Just means I don’t have to do too much of a border, hopefully.
Do the final bean stitch on every odd row into that ch 2 to get a straight edge.
Fhdc an odd number to 160 cms = 243.
121 beans on row 1. (RS)
120 beans on row 2.
Hmm. Somehow ended up with 120 stitches on row 3 (RS). Hope that stays the same. Phew, yes, it did. But still counting each bean row to make sure. Yep, definitely need to count and also mark each 50th bean on both sides to make sure. Otherwise, I keep losing a stitch on every row.
Hmm, 6 rows of beans looks too narrow with the 8ply. Maybe do 10 or 12?
20 rows of beans = 17 cms.
Decided on 5 rows of hdc for the separator though I don’t entirely love how it looks. And it should be 240 hdcs because of course I lost more stitches but no more. 120 beans = 240 hdc. And definitely count stitches at the end of every hdc row as well.
5 rows of hdc = 4.5 cms.
So 5 repeats which means six bean stitch panels in all.
For the border, make sure to hdc into the side of the bean stitch and then the gap below to keep the hdcs even on the side.
What is essential is doing that final hdc row and then starting on the border and doing an hdc row on top of the final. That way, it matches the double hdc row on the foundation.
Ahh, I’m glad I did those swatches and the border on one as well. That helped so much when doing the border on this. Ended up with 165 stitches on one side and 169 on the other which wasn’t too bad and doesn’t really show up as a ripple though I’m sure it would if I had done another round. Did the final hdc row and then hdc all around to the end of that final hdc row where I did an sc in the second last stitch and then a slst in the final stitch and fastened off.
Used about a quarter of that last skein.
It’s heavy af but gorgeous so I’m happy.
