cast on 55st? - or more because of depth of device?

1/9: started swatch. May need to upgrade from #2 to #3 needle. :(

1/30 - restarted after making new swatch. Got correct gauge now that I’m doing the knit stitch correctly. Cast on 58st after remeasuring transformer and rereading directions.

2/15 - going very well! Got through first welts.

9/15 - it’s September. I can’t believe I’m still working on this. (Admittedly, have done a couple other things in between, plus not as much knitting in summer.) But it is horribly slow going. Probably not going to do something this big in sock yarn anytime soon.
