I made a base for the hat and it ran really big, so I sized down a couple needle sizes. I have a small head, so I might even size it down more. The biggest issue was with decreasing to accommodate for my head size but also have room for Coon Mario - I did end up with a decrease up in my business but otherwise had no issues.

I would recommend sizing down at least one needle size, unless the recipient had a large man-size head.
