This yarn is lovely to work with.
I like the way the pattern is charted and written - if you pay attention it’s really easy to follow. As long as you don’t lose a page and not even notice. That doesn’t tend to work well.
I was short on wool, so I only did 7 rows of shells, and 8 rows of lattice.
I used the 5.5mm hook except for some of the edging.
I forgot to measure it pre-blocking but it seems to have grown about 3” and is now 26” from neck to lower edge. I only blocked it gently (wash, spin, lay flat to dry) but it definitely needed it to settle and open the stitches.
Edging
For the last lattice row I did 6 chains instead of 5, and did 2 chains in each shell.
Then I turned and used sc along the edge, one sc in every stitch except the sc (which I skipped), and in the chains of the shell I put 3 sc.
I continued round with 4ch and a sl st in the corner, then sc along the neck edge of the shawl using the 5mm hook.
When I got back to the bottom edge, I changed back to a 5.5 mm hook. I put sc in every stitch, except for the two sc exactly between the shells which I skipped - it gives a ripple effect. The picots at the beginning and end and on every shell are: sc, 3ch, sl st from the back into the sc just made, sc into the same stitch as the last sc. It gives a slightly turned around, nubby picot.
At the corner, after the final picot I changed to a 4mm hook and did sc, ch 2, skip one sc, all along the edge to the end, where I used a slip stitch to finish.
