The yarn is beautifully shiny and drapes well but is very slippery and twists itself up like mad. I used it held double and it used up just over 2 balls of yarn.

The pram blanket pattern has made a good rectangle and I’ve used the edging from the Short Sleeved Crochet Shrug pattern for the collar and sleeves. I had to change the picot edging as it didn’t look right in this yarn: I just used an extra dc instead of the picot.

I’ve been making a pram blanket for a friend and realised that the same pattern might work for this shrug so I’m giving it a go. I’m using the crochet shawl pattern from Sirdar Baby Plus #108, now sadly out of print.
29th May
Yesterday I found a cute little silver shrug in a charity shop so this project is going on hold till I decide what to do about it. The shrug I bought is machine knitted and much more beautifully finished than I could manage!

I really don’t like the look of the fabric I’m creating. It looks too much like chain mail! I’m starting again, and after a sampler of different size hooks and various patterns, I’m going to do a modified Short Sleeved Shrug pattern, using doubled yarn.
Dealing with 3 stitches too many at the sleeves
The edging has a repeat of 10 and I had 63 sc stitches at the sleeve end.
Join sleeve, dc around, 63 stitches.
Next row, add one extra group at end of row by sk 1 (not 2) and dc into st and joining st to make extra group.
Next round, do half a shell in first space, then in last space half shell to join it. Thus losing the extra 3 stitches!
At end of row, turn and continue as pattern.
