I cast on 60 stitches for a width of 7.5 ins which wasn’t big enough, so after a bit of maths (by my sons) I cast on 80 stitches which gave me a width of 10ins.

It’s a simple pattern once you learn the cast on and bind off! (Or in my case follow the instructions for the cast on - I’m not sure I can remember how to do it!)
