knit in one piece. provisional cast on 112 for folded over bottom band. knit 9 rows stockinette, purl one row, knit 9 more rows stockinette. then, inspired by annypurls’ baby yoda sweater, duplicate stitched “may the force be with you” into the bottom band in some scrap Zitron Polo bright green cotton. chart for star wars colorwork here. next row fold the band in half and knit provisional cast on edge and top of work together on the right side.

inspired to go seamless from whistlesandbells.

knit 5 inches (included bottom band folded up) then started side decreases, split arms at 6 inches.

at this point, just concentrated on the left front piece back and forth, kept decreasing until i had 22 stitches (not 24 as in original) then did 4 rows of straight stockinette (no decreases). now i’m 4 inches past the arm hole split. put those stitches on a waste yarn stitch holder and knit the 40 stitches of the back straight up. put those 40 stitches on waste yarn and knit the right front as a mirror image of the left front: back and forth decreasing until you have 22 stitches, then 4 rows of straight stockinette with no decreases. place those 22 stitches on waste yarn.

make sure the waste yarn is secure, and soak and block what you have knit so far. let it dry overnight or until dry. next, i kitchenered 10 stitches together on each shoulder, the 10 stitches nearest to each armhole. so: 10 stitches from the left front nearest to the armhole kitchenered together with 10 stitches from the back closest to the arm hole. do the same with the other shoulder: 10 stitches from the front right, 10 from the back closest to the armhole kitchenered together.

next put the remaining collar stitches (12 from left front, pick up 2 from kitchenered shoulder section 20 from the back, pick up 2 from kitchenered shoulder section, 12 from the right front) for a total of 48 stitches. as in the pattern knit stockinette for 3 rows, garter for 2 rows, then cast off loosely. in the 2nd row of stockinette (purl side) purl the two picked up stitch pairs over the shoulders together, finish with 46 stitches.

pick up 36 stitches (every 2 out of 3) on the armholes. knit stockinette in the round for 3 inches. start decreasing 2 stitches every 4th row. from bottom of arm: k1, ssk, k until 3 stitches remain, k2tog, k1. knit three rows and repeat decreases. decreased until 22 stitches left, knit three more rows, then purled one row, knit one row, purled one row, cast off loosely. repeat for second arm.

create the ties with icord and sew in.

used a total of 130 grams of yarn including the extra folded band.

made some matching socks too.
