Bit concerned about the sizing. Wish I had found this post: http://www.ravelry.com/discuss/patterns/12555/1-25 before I decided on size.
I chose to do a M after getting gague:
Unblocked 24stitches/4 inches
Washed 19stitches/4 inches
Pattern calls for 18 stitches/4inches.
Due to my gague differences, decided to make a M, which should give a chest size of 40”. I’m actually 41”, however as my gague is a bit big I (perhaps stupidly) decided that a M would be the right size. I also prefer the look of MrGreenjeans when it is more fitted.
22.5.10 Have just completed the body and am know knitting the button-band. Will do sleeves last and adjust length based on amount of yarn I have left.
Am still concerned about the sizing. Nearly frogged it to do a larger size, but have decided to make the button-band wider instead. Fit in the shoulders seems to be very good. Body can be pulled so that the edges meet just under my bust (this is before doing the button band). It then pulls open from that point down to my hips … would prefer more coverage over my tummy/hips. Hoping that blocking will relax the cable so that it doesn’t pull open so much. Should have taken photos before beginning the button band….
Really love the feel of the yarn.
26.5.10 Have doubled the width of the button band to increase the circumference of the cardi. Body of the cardi, including button band has taken 7 balls of yarn … ie 630 meters
2.6.10 - Have just finished the decreases on the first sleeve. It has taken almost 1 ball of yarn from picking up the sleeve stitches to completing the decreases. I have 2 balls of yarn left in the correct dyelot so I will have to blend in some yarn from a different dyelot. I’m delighted with how this is progressing.
7.6.10 - First sleeve is almost complete. I won’t have enough yarn in the original dyelot, so I’ll do the cable section of the sleeves in a different dyelot to the rest of the cardi.
14.6.10 - Finished the knitting last night, and darned in the ends tonight. Absolutely delighted with how things. I still need to block, but I’m going to wear it tomorrow first as I’m paranoid that aafter I wash it it will grow so much that I won’t be able to wear it!! (I’m just being paranoid. I could do with it growing in the body, and I imagine I could easily shorten the sleeves if they become too long). Pre-blocking photos tomorrow … I promise!
15.6.10 - Still terrified of wetting & blocking it! I’m going to make myself do it tonight. (All photos are before blocking).
MODIFICATIONS:
1) Used the same needle size throught. Didn’t drop down a size for the cable/rib or the band.
2) Doubled the number of rows in the band (to compensate for making the pattern in a size that was too small for me).
