Notes

Frogged when I got the itch to maybe try the new mkal.
(Another reason to dislike stripes: they are a pain to frog.)
I have no regrets. This was a fun experience and I learned a few things about what I like and dislike.

Swatched, frogged the swatch, balled the yarn and sewed a tote bag to host my project. I am ready and the wait will be long.

09.10.2022

My Sunday knitting is going to end after 9 repeats.
I still have five repeats to make, but I am confident I will finish this part in time for the next clue.

I must say my MC and CC look a bit too strong without the accent colour. I would probably have incorporated it somehow if this was not a mystery.

This is a challenging pattern for me (more mentally than technically) but the result is very interesting and I am curious to see what comes next.

15.10.2022

Finished the first clue. 150gr.
Started 2nd clue.

The twisted stitch ribbing are my little pleasure for the next few days. I have always loved knitting them.

19.10.2022

Finished clue 2 part 4.
250 gr.
I don’t think I will start the next part before seeing what clue 3 looks like.

30.10.2022

Finished part 9 to see how big it is and how I like the wings.
Missing sections 7, 8 and 10 it already weight 400 gr.
I tried to see how I feel with the unfinished shawl on me, and my doubts are reinforced. It feels heavy. The different parts look like a patchwork and I don’t feel great with that many strong stripes on me.
I like seing finished shawls on the forums and appreciate the look of the art piece created, but I see very few people wearing their shawl for the photo.

Concerning the weight:

  • I love my Shawlography and wear is from time to time, but sometimes the weight is inconfortable. I must check how heavy is it to evaluate how I would feel with a finished TT.
  • I should remember to not try another complicated shawl pattern with heavier yarn, like the mixed wool I used in shawlography and the wollmeise in TT. My most confortable bigger shawls are the lighter ones, knit with Colourmart cashmere.

Concerning the appearance of the TT

  • I hesitated doing the striped wings and I was right. I like the slightly heathered stripes in Shawlography but did not want to have to think about the changes, and wanted to try and trust Stephen’s vision. I should have listened to my guts. Thant being said I am unsure that would have changed my feeling so much.
  • I don’t think the order I put my colours really have any impact on my inconfort.
  • What I dislike the most here is the blocky appearance. Each part is put beside the other. The joints are « brutal ». This is not a look I like on myself (I never wear strongly patterned clothes.)
  • I still like my color palette but I don’t know what to make with it now.

Conclusion for today:

  • As much as I like the beautiful bird I see in this knitted object, I have no use for it.
  • I should maybe let go of all of my Wollmeise stock : this yarn is not playing well with me and I frog almost everything I knit with it.
