So far I am using 18 colors to make 42 4-round granny squares (circular centers for rounds 1 & 2, square rounds 3 & 4).
Sleeves will be done in 24 rows of granny stripes to a 12-round granny square at the shoulder.
Back will have one large 16-round granny square on the top back, small squares on the bottom back and sides as well as front. Collar & bottom edging will be granny stripes from bottom front up & around down to bottom front.
3/5- 29/44 squares done, back large square done.
3/10- All done!
Once I washed & dried it I had quite a few ends that had come loose so I am sewing in more tightly. I find this happens a lot with granny squares of many colors. Makes me wish I could have done it using a self striping yarn ;o) Not really.
I am pretty pleased, it’s not perfect, the back square ended up about an inch too wide so it’s a tad more bulky and not as slim fitting as I wanted. If I were to make another I would go one round less on the large back square.
Luckily I used all stash yarn, I didn’t have to purchase any yarn for this coat. Yay!
3/14/2013- I took a quick picture of me wearing the coat this afternoon in the sunshine. It’s a tad too wide through the shoulders. I would make the back square one round smaller to have it fit better but when crocheting it I was concerned it was too small across the shoulders so I did the full amount of rounds. Now I plan to put a pleat at the base of the collar to draw the shoulders in. Other than that the size is great!
Finishing that needs to be done:

• pleat on back
• tighten up any loose ends
• steam iron bottom and edges to flow better Then more photos of the finished coat. As far as writing the pattern out I am tempted but won’t do it until I have at least a dozen requests and it won’t be free but just a few dollars.
