For this, my, what, fifth version of the wonderful Decay pattern, I’ve sort of reversed the instructions. Rather than picking one colour to trigger the eyelets I’ve picked one colour to trigger the garter stitch. So, to put it another way, both the green and pink are worked as eyelets.

Used the northern lights until it ran out… row two of about the 62nd repeat. Used leftover black sock yarn to work the last row and cast-off. The problem with regular space-dyed yarn is that, unlike the first picot edge, the little fringe bits demonstrate that regularity with the cast off picots - two pink fringes (maggots, as I refer to them) followed by two black followed by two green followed by two black… and repeat. See the top photo of the boy’s decay for a demonstration of this phenomenon with orange and black. Since all the rest of the shawl is so delightfully random I preferred to disguise this regularity using one colour.

After soaking for half an hour it blocked out to an impressive 62” wide and 24” deep without wrestling. Will shrivel slightly once released from pins and wires no doubt. And will be dry in time for tomorrow!
