Notes

This has turned out to be a pretty spectacular combination of pattern and yarn!

Modifications:

  • I only had the smaller ball of MCN Fingering yarn so stopped my scarf after the tenth short row.
  • Left out the cast-on increases to make a smoother, more undulating edge. (Still worked those rows, just left out the 4 cast on stitches and continued with the regular border pattern.)
  • Used German short rows, as recommended by others, and they worked perfectly. (Knit one more stitch than pattern states, turn work, slip first stitch on left needle onto right needle purlwise with yarn in front, then move yarn over the top of the needle to the back and begin knitting back to start of row.)

This was great travel knitting - you have to think just enough to keep from getting bored, and each short row section gives a feeling of accomplishment. Also very fun to see how the yarn is patterning up.

February 2018:

I let the shawl hibernate for several months but after picking it up again I am zooming along. The nice thing about the random short rows is that a little mistake or lost count here and there really doesn’t matter. smile
