IntSweMoDo #1, Project 1 of 2014.

AKA my first steeked project

I have been obsessed with elf518’s sweater version of this project forever, so over the summer I bought this pattern and decided to design my own version. So far so good, but I’ve put it aside from fear of steeking. That’s the final frontier for me!

This is knit in sport-weight yarn, like hers, black(ish) PC and white CC. I’m going to attempt to give it less of a funnel neck/more of a traditional neck shaping, though, and definitely want long sleeves for it.

12/29: Kate Davies is making my steeking possible. Huge thank you to her for her reinforcing and cutting tutorial, which showed me that I could steek the sweater without using a sewing machine with the crochet method. Just worked out placement for the armholes, now just need to finish knitting up to the neck.

Made progress on the steeks today and then realized the part I was working on was too loose and had to rip out about 10 rows… UGH!

12/30: Finally got to the neck shaping, so I guess I’m pretty close to being done with the body. It’s getting pretty long, which is slightly worrying…

1/1: Done with body. Reinforced one steek using the crochet method (although it looks pretty amateur, I think it’ll hold it), will do the next two and the cutting tomorrow/today!!! Then onto sleeves and neck edging.

HOLY SHIT I CUT MY KNITTING! Added an instant-gratification selfie, although the clock face is backwards since I took it in the mirror. Neck’s a lil square but is slightly higher than it looks in pic. Next up, shoulder seams, burying all these loose ends, tacking down the steeks, and then the arms!

1/3: Neck finished yesterday. Still squarer than I wanted but c’est la vie. I was originally going to attempt the sleeves from the top down, picking up around the steeked edge, but I quickly realized that they would look weird with the pattern, so I have to knit them separately using magic loop and then attach them.

1/6: Sleeves done. Janky (super short sleeve caps and sporadic increasing = uh oh), but done. Now only seaming the armholes remains.

1/7: I’m done!!!!!!!!!!!! YEEHAW. Pics tk

UPDATE: they’re up. I’m so happy with this, flaws and all. What a great way to end winter break.
