Notes

Heavily modified to adjust for yarn weight (guage approx. 4 sts/in), to eliminate the split in the back of the brim, and to add a button hole. Did too many rows without increases in one spot during the shaping, creating a slightly funny shape, but it fills out nicely and isn’t noticeable when being worn.

Love the fabric that was created by using such small needles with this yarn, but would not recommend doing it, nor would I ever do it again! Very frustrating and tough on the fingers. Nearly scrapped it several times!

Cast on 6 sts using Judy’s Magic Cast On, knitting each strand separately in row 1 for 12 sts.
Row 2: kfb all sts (24 sts)
Row 3: K
Row 4: (kfb, k1) across (36 sts)
Rows 5 & 6: K
Row 7: (kfb, k2) across (48 sts)
Rows 8-11: K
Row 12: (kfb, k5) across (56 sts)
Rows 13-16: K
Row 17: (kfb, k6) across (64 sts)
Rows 18-20: K
Row 21: (kfb, k7) across (72 sts)
Rows 22 & 23: K
Row 24: (kfb, k8) across (80 sts)
Rows 25 & 26: K
Row 27: (kfb, k9) across (88 sts)
Rows 28-42: K

10 rows of second color

I have no notes for the brim beyond this: Continue in the round. At the point the increases were needed (maybe around the 6th row from the band???) I switched to the size 6 needles and increased 3 sts. On the 9th row from the band I made a 5 sts button hole, repeating on the “inside” of the brim.

Did a sewn bind off with a scrap of laceweight alpaca, bringing the yarn through the “bump” of the bottom band row to seam together at the same time. Very happy with this - still very stretchy without being too bulky.

Used same scrap alpaca to seam together button holes.

Brim is particularly thick, along with the band, and buttoning it up looks a bit odd. Might come in handy if it stretches out over time, though.

This is intended as a chemo cap and feels very warm and comfy to me. Here’s hoping it’s not too itchy or too loose or too tight for the one who needs it!
