Notes

part of a a handmade birthday outfit for my eight year old girl.

used 3 and 1/4 skeins. because it’s my second Camilla Kid (i’d vowed to make it again), i modified the sleeves, and added to the cuffs a smaller version of the repeat fan pattern. i really like how it looks.

i made size 8 for my tall eight year old girl because i find that this pattern looks better with a slightly negative ease. however, right now it fits her perfect.

the pattern is simple and clear, and the fan motif comes with both a chart and written instructions.

note that it oddly calls for 16” circular needles, which are definitely too short circulars to knit a sweater for a child - you need longer circulars.

I’m really sad to add that the Quince and Co Osprey didn’t do well at all, and started pilling badly almost immediately. I contacted Quince and Co about this issue, assuming I’d received a bad batch of yarn. Instead, they said they knew that Osprey could be pilly, but considered this a by-product of their limited use of chemicals and treatments in making the yarn. While I applaud Quince and Co for their commitment to making natural products, I was surprised to learn that they were aware of this objectively rather serious flaw in one of their yarns, and hadn’t put this crucial information in their product description. In a follow-up email, I suggested they do this so their customers could make an informed purchase, but never received a reply.
