Notes

I make these hearts for the cardiac unit at St.Luke’s Episcopal Hospital in the Woodlands, TX. Their program was brought to my attention by one of the ladies from the Lone Star State Knitters group. The program was giving out quilt scrap hearts and I decided they need a knitted alternative.

These are made of Knit Picks Bare Stroll yarn (uses 4 grams) and stuffed with scraps of Lion Brand Homespun. Any fingering weight yarn and yarn scraps can be used. Some of the hearts were stuffed with scraps and snips of yarn that I have been saving for years, just knowing that someday, I would use them.

I have not tried it, but it would probably make a great pillow in a heavier weight yarn.

The chaplain very kindly sent me the purple glass heart paperweight when I sent the first 21 hearts. Such a lovely surprise. The heart is normally purple, but under the CFL bulbs in my office, it is light blue.

I also submitted this design to a contest, but it did not win. Oh, well.

I hope to see pictures if anyone uses the pattern!

Happy knitting!
