Notes

Canaandogknits wanted to make the Elementary in Safety orange and camo for Christmas gifts for 2 hunters in her family. I decided to do a mini knitalong and make one as well.

I got the Orange yarn from Wild Hare Fibers (wildhare.etsy.com). She created a custom dye on Lamb’s Pride worsted she dubbed “Better Safe than Sorry”. The Camo is Paton Classic Merino in Forest, doubled. I used every bit of the 114 gr skein of Better Safe than Sorry, I have just 7 yards left.

This has two treatments on the earflaps. In the first, the stitches are picked up on the right side. I found that if one is wearing this in a high freezing wind, the tiny gap caused by the earflap laying over the I cord band might be a problem. The second had the stitches picked up from the wrong side and the I cord band keeps it close to the head. For extra warmth, elastic cord could be added to the I cord edge on the sides of the earflap.

I have a couple of changes for this version of Elementary that I will be adding to the pattern. The top is knit with one strand, the brims and earflaps are knit with a doubled strand and I made a couple of changes to the I cord on the brim as well as the above mentioned earflap changes.
