Notes

And so begins my next cosplay. I’m going for Power Girl, so it’ll be a cape and detail, a leotard, boots, and gloves. If I get really brave, I may figure out how to crochet the hair, but I’m not promising anything.

September 23, 2014: Knocked out the cape rope. I used the Sashay, which worked up exactly like I wanted but was a monster to try and weave the ends on. I won the day, but it took some time.

The rope itself was done with lobster stitch. The shoulder decoration is just single crochet and some decreases.

September 28, 2014: The cape is started. I did three single crochets into each lobster stitch I could locate on that devil yarn (never use a decorative yarn to learn a new stitch; what the hell is wrong with me), and now I’m working down in triple crochets with a three-stitch increase on the side under the shoulder shield to get the right drape on the thing. I’m a little further than shown in the pics, and the super ruffles are softening out to a cape with more drape, as I figured they would. I am currently almost through my first skein of red and am guessing at least 3 skeins to finish, though I won’t be surprised if I need 4 to get it as long as I need.

October 21, 2014 -- We have cape! It actually worked up quickly once I got started, but I took some breaks to work on other stuff inbetween, so it took longer than it would have if I’d just gone straight through. Very happy with how it lays and how it looks overall.

November-ish, 2014-- Wig made, though I’m not sure it’s quite the look I was hoping for. I’m going to wait until the whole costume is made before deciding if it’s usable or not. I think it could really take the comic book feel of the look all the way, but it may just look sort of silly. It was an easy pattern to follow. I had to restart once, but it’s because I’m bad with slip stitches.

December 1, 2014-- Boots are go. I’ve got one half of one boot finished. The pieces worked up quickly, so I think I can do the shaft of the boot and the other boot in just another night or a night and a half. I am not happy with the pattern I used. I’m currently getting the right look, but I’ve found multiple mistakes in the pattern and some of the instructions aren’t clear about how to piece the different parts together. It’s frustrating, especially considering the high rating the pattern got around these parts. But at least I’m prepared for when I make the second boot.

December 27, 2014 -- And we’re done! Let’s here it for a long weekend for the holiday. The dress was done in almost entirely one piece, working from the bottom up. I fastened off at the middle of my chest and added rows to create the chest window before rejoining and worked up until the straps needed to be joined.

The belt was a quick bit of work, just a few rows of half-double crochet with the button hole worked as I went. The gold disc was done separately and attached later.

Arm bands were a very quick bit of work from a very easy to follow pattern. I had to increase the number of rows around my wrists. It was a very easy fix, and they came together very quickly. I’m looking forward to strutting around in this at ECCC.
