Notes

I saw the knitting pattern for the 10 stitch blanket on here, but I didn’t want to knit… I wanted to crochet. So after some trial and error, I somewhat devised a pattern. It has been really fun and very hard to put down!

4/16/12 - I tore the whole thing out. Even though the suggested hook is an H and I used a J, it was coming out very thick and stiff - like a place mat/coaster or one of those woven Mexican blankets. Not what I want for a baby. So I’m starting over with an N.

6/18/12 - An amazing thing happened while at Yarn N Yak tonight… I actually got to new yarn that I hadn’t used before. I can’t believe I tore THAT MUCH out! But onward and upward! New photo update soon - it looks MUCH better this way!

9/13/12 - This project has been the project from hell. I actually contacted Bernat about how awful the yarn was. It would twist so tight while I was crocheting that I had to clip the skein and let it spin out… like, it would get down to the thickness of kinky embroidery floss. Then there would be spots that were barely wound at all and would pull apart since it was a roving-type yarn. This blanket, which should have taken a month tops with lots of breaks in there, took almost 6 months because I had to stop and let the yarn untwist every 3-4 FEET.

But it’s DONE. D-O-N-E done done DONE.

Basically, I did 9 single crochet stitches across, chain 1, turn and do it again. Started with 18 rows, turned 90* and did another 9, connecting the first row to side of the last nine rows, turning 90* and continuing until I attached rows to the side of each of the first 18 rows. Then I went an additional 9 rows, turned and repeated ad nauseum until the blanket was as big as I wanted. Ideally I wanted to get to at least 36” square, but the yarn was such a headache that I decided to be happy with 33” square. I ended with 12 rows across in each direction. Finally I did a row of single crochet along all 4 sides to finish it off.
