Notes

Notes: cut out torn mesh pocket with some fabric left to “anchor” to; “sandwiched” the side seams and bottom seam around the cut fabric using Gear Aid’s Tenacious Tape; since the base seam measured 135mm and I got 105mm/20sts in SC using largest hook, I punched 9 holes in the reinforced bottom seam and worked 3 SCs in each hole for a total of 27sts along the bottom. Worked 12 SC rows, decreasing 3 sts evenly (to 24sts) to form the bottom of the pocket. Slipped sts along bottom edge of pocket to start working the sides, made 8 SCs/side. Worked all 40 sts for ~12 SC rows. {On next row, ch2, link to hole punch in reinforced fabric, ch1, dc in 2nd chain from start, ch1, dc in 2nd chain from last to end of row}x3. On next row & using smaller hook (but leaving a generous chain for the larger hook to be able to use), sc across, dec. 1 st just after 8 “side” sts, then dec. 1 just before 8 “side” sts, sc to end. Alternate these two rows to end of reinforced fabric, 32 sts total. Using knitting needles, and to back of pocket, p/u & knit in each chain, 32 sts. K in stockinette until height is achieved to encase elastic; sew fabric closed around elastic by running needle through top loop of last crochet chain, then one st on needle, slipping this st off needle; continue to end; weave in ends.

Aug 30/25: spent some time testing this concept today (verifying that the repair tape could fold in half and take a hole-punch, making a circular base for the pocket, then opting against that and starting a more square version after punching holes in the bottom flap) then got to it.

Aug 31/25: I’ll try to transcribe the way I created this as best I can so that I can mirror it on the other side if it works out. I’m eager to see how the cotton holds up over time. Also, I need to verify the sizes of the hooks I keep in my knitting kit, ‘cause those are the ones I used for this project. Finally, I have 74g (including the cone) remaining of the 5th skein of yarn in Peacock, so I’m basically taking a “best guess” on the amount of yarn left there, including the cone weight in the total.
