Notes

There is no yarn or hook size; use hook size appropriate to the yarn you choose.

Chain 6, join with slip stitch to form a ring.

Round 1: chain 5. treble crochet (tr) and then chain one in ring 15 times. (treble crochet=yarn over twice, insert hook in space indicated, yarn over (yo) and pull up a loop so that you have 4 loops on the hook; yarn over and draw through two loops on hook 3 times. after 15th (tr) you should now have 16 stitchs on the loop as your first row. Join the last (tr)/ch 1 with the first stitch (the chain 5) on row one with a slip stitch, so you now have a circle.

Round 2:
You’ll be working in the ch-1 spaces: chain 2 + Yarn over (yo), insert hook in same space, yarn over and pull up a loop. Yarn over and draw through 2 looks on hook. Repeat from + three more times. Yarn over and draw through all 5 loops on the hook.chain 2. For all other clusters, you will + Yarn over (yo), insert hook in same space, yarn over and pull up a loop. Yarn over and draw through 2 looks on hook. Repeat from + four more times. at the end, join to first cluster with a slip stitch.

Round 3:

Single crochet three times in each chain 2 space.

Round 4 & 5: single crochet. On row 5, keep the yarn loose in your hand so they stitches are not quite as tight as round 4.

Round 6: Look at your work. On the reverse side, just under the top loop or roud 5 where you would put you hook to do a normal single crochet, you will see the side of the single crochet stitch of round 5. Put your hook in there, and single crochet into it. Do that all the way around. It will look like you have just crocheted a right angle.

Round 7 - 12 (or more, depending on how deep you want the basket) normal single crochet. Finish off, or start handle with same color.

Handle is a 5 stitch wide single crochet, make as many rows as you desire for the length you want.

Decorate basket as desired with crocheted flowers, single crochet “vines,” or leaves, which I made with a single crochet, treble crochet, double crochet, single crochet into the same spot.

The ones photographed were not starched or stiffened. You could starch them when you are done, to keep their shape if you choose.
