First time knitting a baby cardigan. This will be a gift so fingers crossed it works out well :)

I did a gauge swatch so I’m dropping my needle sizes, starting with 3mm for the rib and then going to 3.5mm for the body. Considering the baby is yet to be born, it doesn’t matter if this cardigan turns out a touch smaller than the pattern which is for a 6 month old.

15/11 - Back piece: I did 5 rows for the rib (starting and ending with a wrong side row). I was busy knitting the stockinette stitch section having mis-read that it should be 3.5”, thankfully realising the measurement was from the cast on edge before I’d gone too far. Mine is now 3.75” with 18 rows before I do the decrease row.

16/11 - Around the neck I picked up 72 stitches (including 20 stitches on each of the front sections). I worked the sleeves in the round on DPNs until the sleeve cap shaping section. Fingers crossed it doesn’t make the construction more difficult. Almost done. Just the buttonhole band and the sewing up remain (the photo is from earlier in the day).

17/11 - Knitting and seams complete! Now to find some buttons.

21/11 - Buttons attached. I decided to give the cardigan a point of difference by using different coloured buttons :)

Overall, it was a simple knit. I had to look at a few of my basic knitting books for techniques to sew up the seams and, while I had to have a few goes at attaching the sleeves, it came together well.
