Judy’s magic cast on for 24s. Increase every second round with:
R1: k1 M1R … M1L k1 x 2 per round.
R2: k round
Repeat R1-R2 up to 56s (finishing on R2). Then knit 4 rounds, knit across the next needle and change colours (this is the middle of the sole of the foot).
Knit 50 rounds (total sock length 19.5cm) then put in placeholder yarn for after thought heel.
Leg: 62 rounds
Cuff: one round knit then k2 p2 for 19 rounds then Jeny’s Surprisingly Stretchy Bind-off
Afterthought spiral heel
Pick up the stitches either side of waste yarn (28 + 29s). Start heel knitting from the middle of the sole picking up and knitting one extra stitch per needle at the corners and on needle four doing k2tog on last stitch (gets rid of the extra stitch).
Next round: (k13 k2tog k2tog k13) x 2 to get rid of the extra stitches.
Then knit 8 rounds.
Then:
(K8 k2tog k18) x 2
K round
(K7 k2tog) repeat for the round
K round
(K6 k2tog) repeat for the round
K round
Continue in this way until:
(K3 k2tog) repeat for the round
after which do the decreases every round until 6 stitches remain - weave tail through those and weave in end.
Notes:
- Initially tried to use Knit Picks Stroll Fingering for the toe but it turned out to be too thin in comparison with my handspun causing a big width difference as I switched yarns.
- Initially increased to 60s but that was too wide with the combination of needle size and handspun
