Gradient
I’ve written up the process (and the math) for how to set up your own gradient sweater spin with matching body and sleeves. PDF here! It has illustrations and everything.

Pithy, mathy version: separate out 1/6 of total fiber, from end of gradient you want up at collar, for the yoke & set aside; divide remaining fiber into 4:3 body:sleeves, set body aside; divide sleeve lot in halves. (Body + yoke):sleeves comes out 2:1 in traditional EZ style. Spin each set to desired grist. Knit. Enjoy.

Remember at cast on to set aside some of the beginning colour to knit your collar afterwards!

Mods
My gauge, so help me, is 30st/4”.

So, I am reconfiguring the maths. My goal is about 38” bust circumference so whenever I have to make a direct number-to-number conversion I’m working from between the 36” and 40” sizes.

Constant change: cable pattern is 2purl, 4x4cable, 2purl. Cables are mirrored left/right. Increases for the raglan (and any other shaping) are being made one stitch away, for smoother lines.

CO: 110 (1 front right st, 12 cable panel, 11 sleeve, 12 cable panel, 40 back, 12 cable, 11 sleeve, 12 cable, 1 front left)

Neck shaping increases: 3/side 5 times, 4/side once, then join to round (52st front and back sections)

Extra increases in the arm sections for my hefty hefty biceps: 5x

Collar: picked up stitches willy-nilly, didn’t count; knitted on size 0s in 1x1 rib. I meant to do 2x2, but got a few rounds in before I realised that somehow I hadn’t. Whoops. Oh well.

A little more aggressive bust shaping - 5 increases each side in front body segment before fullest part of bust, gradual decreases at edge of body following bust line.

26st each underarm.

Notes

5/7 sleeve separation! Sweater yoke weighs 2.5oz.

5/11 Definitely have more yardage than I need. Splicing out bits of the solid colours and even a little in transitions to keep things moving along fast enough.

5/24 Body bound off! Would’ve been a few days ago but my hands seem to think I’m knitting a bit too much lately, for some reason… inexplicable really… ;) 7.45 oz for the finished body.

9/2 After a long break of doing not-for-me knitting I am back in the saddle. Took three tries to get a sleeve shape that works for my buff upper arms and nipped in tight enough at the cuff to not get fouled up in my wheels. Argh. Just two tiny splices in right sleeve, though! Gradient matching! (Volumes of leftover splices weighed today. 0.75oz remain from right sleeve; 3.25 from main body.)

9/13 It’s DONE it’s DONE it’s DONE! Blocking! Just as the weather snapped back to cold again too. Tomorrow I wear it!
