Notes

FYI - 600 yards of MC is NOT enough to knit the pattern as written.
9/9/14: Found I never wore the sweater as knit per the pattern because the sleeves were just very uncomfortable. After some experimenting I found a new sleeve I liked very much:

  • follow pattern for first 4 rows, join for working in the round.
  • Double dec as per pattern ever row on side (bottom), and double dec as per pattern every other row on shoulder (top) for 35 rows.
  • Double dec as per pattern every other row on side (bottom), and every 3rd row on shoulder (top) for 18 rows.
  • 10 rows garter all around, bind off. Best part, didn’t run out of yarn! Sorry for the bad cell phone photos of mods, better photos coming soon.

11/2/13: It’s done, and I like it. I’ve gotten lots of complements. It’s a fabulous design, I just wish the pattern was equally fabulous. The Leinen Los is incredible! My new favorite! It’s so nice right next to skin, haven’t even washed and blocked it yet.

10/25/13: So glad I stopped sleeve 1 when I did because I have run out of MC - like so many others. I don’t want to bother with ordering another skein so I’m going to use the leftover Zauberwolle :( Crappers.

10/9/13: really getting frustrated with this pattern. Clearly, it wasn’t tested or tech edited. I am using the exact same yarn for the MC and I find it hard to believe the sample only used 600 yards - I’ve used 541 yards and I haven’t even started the second sleeve! So frustrating. Except for very minor tweeks that didn’t use extra yarn, I followed the pattern exactly. I’m pretty sure I’m going to run out. Word to the wise, if you are using Leinen Los you should decrease quicker (or pickup less stitches) than recommended, or buy 3 skeins instead of 2.

Finished stripes, picking up stitches for arms. Wish I had a heads up to snug up first and last stitches of stripped rows. I was intentionally leaving these loose so it wouldn’t pull too much but now the seam where I’ve picked up stitches is loose and Nast-a. Note to others, don’t do what I did. Remember you will be picking up and knitting those first and last stitches.

Gauge weirdness
9/27/13 Pattern calls for #6 & #7 but doesn’t specify which is used for gauge. Also doesn’t specify where #6 is used, only where #7 is used. Now that I’m almost done I’m assuming the smaller is for stripes and larger is for arms? Knitting in just main color I am getting gauge on 8’s, so now thinking I should have used 7’s for stripes after all? My gauge swatch was in pattern (stripes) now I’m thinking it should have been in mc - I really wish the pattern had been specific about which yarn and which needles to use for swatch, otherwise there really isn’t a point in swatching if you are comparing apples to oranges.

9/3/13 Initially hung up on gauge. I’m a loose knitter so I always start swatching 1 needle down. Finally got gauge on needles two sizes larger then expected and the fabric is very loose. Blocked the #7 swatches and got gauge, but pattern indicates to block loosely. Hmm. UPDATE: Cirilia replied to my inquiry that the fabric should be almost see through and to carry on with the 8’s.
