Notes

I used 2 patterns to form this hybrid Santa hat complete with beard. Since the “bearded toque” pattern started with a top down hat I had to find a top down Santa hat pattern to jump from so I chose this easy peasy “Coast & Clark Santa Hat” pattern. I made the smaller size because the the toque pattern (at the start of the beard part) called for 80 stitches. Since the “Santa hat” left off at 78 stitches I worked another 5 rounds and then added 2 stitches evenly across and finished working the hat pattern. When I got to the row right before the bind off for the “bearded toque” pattern I switched over to my beard yarns and weaved in some waste yarn through the last row of off white in the hat pattern to pick up later. (I picked these up with size 8 needles and knit 12 or so rows in pattern to create a thicker brim around the hat).

Since I was using novelty yarn for the beard I didn’t feel the need to knit in seed stitch and in turn just knitted in stockinette stitch.
