I’m really into making vests! I first saw this pattern during the “fringeandfriendskal2015” back in October 2015, but had no idea how to knit a garment yet as I had only been knitting for less than one month and was still in the “knit a rectangle until it becomes a scarf stage.” Since then, a little over 6 months later, I’ve really progressed my knitting skills and can now knit vests and sweaters!

I had wanted a cropped white vest to pop over long sleeve shirts for an extra layer or warmth since it stays pretty chilly year round here in Amsterdam, so this was the perfect solution! I wanted to do a tiny bit of colorwork to make it a fun knit, but didn’t like the flower-motif design in the original design so I just took that out and kept it very simple with some gray stripes and black floats.

Finally added the zipper this week and wore my cowichan vest out into the wild! I love it over my Base Range turtleneck sweatshirt in the color nude. (I am obsessed with all things Base Range and also have the dress version of this sweatshirt in the same nude color.) I also think it would go well with this old-school Madewell chambray shirt that has been worn so much that it is almost threadbare.
