Using yarn from my first buttony cardigan. It just didn’t fit. Looking to subatomic’s mods to make this a longish-sleeved fully buttoned-down cardigan.
CO 82
(for a wider neckline)
Dividing for sleeves:
206 stitches: 31 / sleeve 42 / back 60 / sleeve 42 / 31
Added 6 short rows to the back as per ishi because I’ve never done it before and want to see how it will turn out. Will also do some waist shaping so it’s more fitted.
July 18 - I almost finished the body and tried a sleeve and I think the sleeves are too wide and the torso too tight. Riiiiip… I’m dividing differently:
New sleeve division:
206 stitches: 34 / sleeve 39 / back 60 / sleeve 39 / 34 - with 6 added under the arm
After I finished knitting the body and started on the sleeves I realized the sleeves were still too wide. I have very thin arms. I had to do some rapid decreasing at the start, I think I took them down 4 stitches after 3 or 4 rows, then decreased 2 stitches on 4th row after that, then on the 6th row after that, then after 12 rows x 2 or 3. I didn’t have much yarn to do the sleeves with so I wanted to narrow them quickly. Otherwise I would be wasting yarn.
Aug 26 - Done, and with just 20” of yarn to spare! It looks great. I’m so happy I tore back and changed how I divided the stitches — the fit is so much better. The sleeves are a bit shorter than I would like but that’s all the yarn I had. Just have to find buttons. This makes 2 cardigans that I need buttons for, better get on that soon!
Added some semi-focused photos with it unblocked and sans buttons… Will post better ones when I have some buttons on.
blogged.
A little warning about this yarn – it pills. a LOT. Other than that it’s gorgeous.
