July 13 (pm): Almost done! Still want to add 1” to the bottom but was so eager to have Juni try it on :) I love how it turned out! I wish I had a picture of her in it with those skinny sleeve for comparison. These sleeves look so much more comfortable and will work better for layering in the fall and winter. So glad I stuck with it - this is so darn cute!

July 13 (am): Frogged the ribbing on the right sleeve to add 1.5” to the length (9.5” from underarm + 2” ribbing). Started on the second sleeve, and somehow, even after picking up 4 stitches, only had 38! So did 3.5” with no decrease then did 4 decreases, same as other sleeve. Almost done! Might need to buy one more ball of yarn to add the 1” to the bottom.

July 8 (pm): Had the little bit try it on when she got back into town today. I’m going to add 1.5-2” to the bottom and 1-2” to the sleeve so it will last a little longer. I went by the Leisure Arts raglan pattern for those measurements and I’m surprised they are off! Otherwise, the fit is perfect. This will go nicely over a shirt in the winter and is not too tight at all, unlike my first attempt made following the original pattern (AND I made the size 6!). And the sleeves are so much better! I’m so pleased with how it looks.

July 8 (am): Left sleeve done. Knit 9” from the underarm and 2” of 2x2 ribbing. One more sleeve to go!

July 7 (pm): Body is done! Started the sleeves. Picked up an additional 4 stitches under the arm for a total of 40 stitches for the sleeve. Decreasing every 1.75”, 5 times then stockinette. Working st. st. until arm measures 9”-10” then ribbing.

July 7 (am): Have 5” worked down from armpits. Gettin’ there!

July 6: Worked 5.5” down and then put sleeves on scrap yarn. Now I just need to work in the round and keep track of the garter stitch panel.

July 4: Welp, that first attempt was an epic fail! This pattern does indeed run small and tight. When I had Juni try it on with the one sleeve, I could tell that 1) it wasn’t going to fit in the fall and 2) even if it did, it wasn’t going to be comfortable. The sleeves just weren’t right. So I’m attempting it again by combining this pattern with the basic seamless raglan pattern. This time I CO 64 stitches (18sts for the garter stitch front panel) and I will be doing the increases until the piece measures 5.5” in an attempt to make this a size 5T. I am NOT doing the short rows. Hopefully this will work! This really is a stunning pattern and looks so darn cute.

Jan. 27: Finished one sleeve and started the other and then got to thinking there wasn’t enough armpit room. Frogged the second sleeve and picked up 4 stitches under the arm. I then worked the decreases and am now working in stockinette. I think this will work much better! Now I just need to frog the other sleeve and knit it the same way and we’re done.

Jan. 24: Finally picked this bad boy back up! Started the sleeves and did as the pattern said - two decrease rows - then tried it on my little model when I was halfway down the sleeve. Oh boy is this thing tight fitting! There was just enough stretch the I could tell the sleeve was comfortable but I’m hoping she can wear this next year too. Frogged the length of the sleeve and am going to knit the entire thing, no decreases.

Dec. 9: Down to the bottom ribbing. This sweater has been a breeze to knit! Put it on some scrap yarn when I was about 1/3rd down the body and it looked smashing on Juni. Can’t wit to whip up these sleeves so she can put it to good use.

Dec. 4: Phew!! Finally getting there! What was really tripping me up was the pattern called to “remember to pick up YO when you come to it” in the 5th short row. I thought this meant just knit the YO but it actually meant to ssk it. Also, I kept getting confused in keeping track of what pattern size numbers I needed to go by. My suggestion is the circle or highlight the number you need to go by to help you keep track. Also, the marker that marks the beginning of the round is counted as a marker (which, in retrospect, seems like common sense but when reading the pattern, I was getting confused). So when knitting the 5th short row, when the pattern calls to “YO, k to marker, M1L, slm, k2, slm, M1R, repeat 2 times (remember to pick up YO when you come to it), k to marker, M1R”, that last bit (“k to marker, M1R”) means to knit to the marker of the beginning of the round and make one before starting the next round. I feel like an idiot for no figuring this out sooner! But if I had done these 3 things, I wouldn’t have had to restart 5 times ;)

Dec. 2: Worked the short rows not really knowing what I was doing and got some epic holes. This tutorial should help.

Dec. 1: Cast on the size 6 for my nearly 4 year old. I read a lot of comments on how this runs small and is tight fitting. Want to make sure I get 2 years use out of it :)
