Notes

WOW. This project was the most satisfying I’ve had in a long time. It was mentally engaging, it was quick and easy and fun to knit, and the results are absolutely stunning. “Song of the Sea” is the most unique and elegant cowl or scarf I’ve seen anywhere.

The Tosh Merino Light is perfectly suited for this pattern. The single ply gives great stitch definition. The only thing about Madelinetosh yarns is that it is impossible ever to get a true sense of the color in a photograph. Although “Mica” is in the gray color group, it really is a pale blue-green-gray, which is perfect for the ocean theme of this pattern. Unfortunately, the photos read as flat gray.

I lightly blocked the cowl, but then I unpinned it while it was still ever so slightly damp so it would spring back some. I wanted the pattern to regain its spring so that it would keep its waviness . This undulating pattern needs a little give, unlike a shawl, which needs to be stretched to the nth degree.

Next time I knit this, which will be very soon, I think I’ll try knitting on size 5 needles because I’m a loose knitter. And I think I may cast on 288 (2 more repeats) to compensate for the smaller stitches (?) -- which will give a little more ease and drape when wrapped twice around the neck.

I used the Miraculous Elastic Bind Off for this cowl and am very happy with it!
