Notes

Oh good, an optional round, I said.

I’ll take a break, I said.

HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA oh god send help

  1. Definitely toe-up, based on stitch orientation
  2. 2x12 st cast on, probably JMCO, using MC yarn
  3. Begin striped colorwork immediately
  4. Increase every round 3 times as k1 MC, m1L in correct stripe color, work to 1 st before end, m1R in correct stripe color, k1 MC.
  5. Increase every other round up to 64 sts as above
  6. Knit two rounds with just MC
  7. Purl 32, knit 32 (knit on sole side)
  8. Knit one round

Motif on foot, at some indeterminate location after purl ridge (BOR is in the middle of a motif, stuff in [] are “between motif” stitches) MY BAD: according to pattern page photo, instep should start in the middle of the [] section rather than at the center of a motif:

  1. k1 CC, [k7 MC], repeat around for 3 rounds
  2. k2 CC, [k5 MC], k1 CC, repeat around for 3 rounds
  3. k3 CC, [k3 MC], k2 CC, repeat around for 3 rounds
  4. k4 CC, [k1 MC], k3 CC, repeat around for 3 rounds
  5. k1 CC, k1 MC, repeat around for 3 rounds
  6. k1 MC, k1 CC, repeat around for 3 rounds
  7. k1 CC, k1 MC, k1 CC, [k3 MC], k1 CC, k1 MC, repeat around for 3 rounds
  8. k1 MC, k1 CC, [k5 MC], k1 CC, repeat around for 3 rounds
  9. k1 CC, [k7 MC], repeat around for 3 rounds
  10. k around in MC

(Because I could, instead of doing diamonds all around, I did a striped motif on the sole similar to the toe, but shifted by 1 st every three rounds.)

Heel flap and gusset as in Longing for Spring from last year’s SM, stopped two rows early so I end up with 32 sts instead of 30 as patterned.

Leg

Begin with 6 rounds p1k1 (so the knits line up with the slipped stitches in the heel flap) ribbing in MC, k 1 round.

CC garter ridge: k around in CC, p around in CC
MC garter ridge: k around in MC, p around in MC

Begin with one CC garter ridge and one MC garter ridge, and then continue the motif:

  1. CC: [k4, sl1 purlwise, k3] repeat between [] to end. Purl around, purling the CC sts and slipping the MC sts.
  2. MC: knit around, then: [p4, k1, p3] around. You are purling all stitches EXCEPT those above slipped stitches.
  3. CC: [k3, sl3, k2] around. Purl around, purling the CC sts and slipping the MC sts.
  4. MC: knit around, then: [p3, k3, p2] around.
  5. CC: [k2, (yo) sl5, k1] around (yo is optional but recommended). Purl around, purling the CC sts, dropping the yo if you worked it, and (yo) slipping the MC sts.
  6. MC: knit around, dropping any yos, then: [p2, k5, p1] around.
  7. CC: [k1, (yo) sl7] around. Purl around, purling the CC sts, dropping the yo if you worked it, and (yo) slipping the MC sts.
  8. MC: knit around, dropping any yos, then: [p1, k7] around
  9. CC: [sl1, k1] around. Purl around, purling the CC sts and slipping the MC sts.
  10. MC: knit around, then [k1, p1] around.
  11. CC: [k1, sl1] around. Purl around, purling the CC sts and slipping the MC sts.
  12. MC: knit around, then [p1, k1] around.
  13. CC: [k2, sl1, k1, sl1, k1, sl1, k1] around (3 slipped sts per diamond). Purl around, purling the CC sts and slipping the MC sts.
  14. MC: knit around, then [p2, k1, p1, k1, p1, k1, p1] around.
  15. CC: [k3, sl1, k1, sl1, k2] around (2 slipped sts per diamond). Purl around, purling the CC sts and slipping the MC sts.
  16. MC: knit around, then [p3, k1, p1, k1, p2] around.
  17. CC: [k4, sl1, k3] around. Purl around, purling the CC sts and slipping the MC sts.
  18. MC: knit around, then [p4, k1, p3] around.

Work one CC garter ridge and one MC garter ridge, and repeat the motif. Work another CC garter ridge, and another MC garter ridge.

Cuff:

Knit around once, then k1p1 cuff (can’t quite count how many rows so let’s go with 12). I’m gonna do a tubular bind-off cuz I like it.
